Underbite
Lower teeth in front of upper teeth when biting.
What Is It?
An underbite is when your lower front teeth sit in front of your upper front teeth when you close your mouth. The lower jaw appears to jut forward.
Signs to Look For
- Lower teeth visible in front when biting
- Jaw appears to protrude forward
- Uneven or uncomfortable chewing
- Jaw pain or TMJ issues in some cases
What Causes It?
Usually genetics or jaw size imbalance where the lower jaw grows larger than the upper jaw.
How We Fix It
Braces combined with orthopedic appliances to guide jaw growth. In adults with a severe underbite, jaw surgery may be considered alongside braces.
Typically 18–30 months
