Invisalign for Teens: What Parents Should Know

Platinum Orthodontics·November 25, 2024

Is Invisalign a Good Fit for Teenagers?

Invisalign Teen is specifically designed for adolescent patients and has become one of the most popular treatment options for teens at Platinum Orthodontics. But it is not the right choice for every teenager — and understanding the differences will help you make the best decision for your child.

How Invisalign Teen Differs from Adult Invisalign

Invisalign Teen aligners include a few features designed for younger patients:

  • ·**Compliance indicators** — small blue dots on the aligners that fade with wear, making it easy to see if your teen is wearing them the required 20–22 hours per day
  • ·**Eruption tabs** — spaces built into the aligners to accommodate teeth that have not fully come in yet
  • ·**Replacement aligners** — a set of free replacement aligners included in case one is lost or damaged

The Compliance Question

This is the most important factor. Invisalign only works if the aligners are worn consistently. A teenager who takes them out at lunch and forgets to put them back in will not see results — and may actually cause problems by inconsistently applying pressure to the teeth.

Ask yourself honestly: Is your teen responsible and motivated? Do they understand why this matters? Are they asking for Invisalign, or is it your idea?

Motivated teens often do extremely well with Invisalign — sometimes better than adults because they are more careful about caring for their aligners. Less motivated teens may do better with braces, which work continuously without any compliance required.

What About Sports and Musical Instruments?

Invisalign aligners can be removed for contact sports, which reduces the risk of injury to lips and cheeks. Athletes who play contact sports and wear Invisalign typically remove the aligners during practice and games, then put them back in immediately after.

For students who play wind instruments, the adjustment period with Invisalign is shorter than with braces. Aligners have smooth surfaces and do not protrude into the lip the way braces do.

The Social Factor

Many teenagers prefer Invisalign because the aligners are virtually invisible. High school photos, prom, and everyday social interactions are part of why teens and parents choose the clear aligner route. This is completely valid — confidence during treatment matters.

How Much Does Invisalign Teen Cost?

At Platinum Orthodontics, Invisalign Teen is priced all-inclusively — no hidden fees, and the cost includes refinements, replacement aligners, and final retainers. Book a free consultation to get the exact quote for your child's case.
